So I guess Grovyle became good in the new one after being on the most wanted list in the previous part. I like that Dan Green voices him. Maddie Blaustein played Chatot the first time, didn't she? Of course they had no choice but to replace her. |
actually grovyle was a good guy from the start you need to play time darkness or sky to understand

the commercials had niothing to do with the special
but yeah enough with the human turning into a water starter it's just boring
Wow, kind of a big jump they did from the 2nd Mystery Dungeon Special to this one, then again being this was to promote "Explorers of Sky" they wanted to give a nod to one of the prominent new feature: the side stories, especially the one which intells what happened to Grovyle and Dusknoir once they travelled back to the future which this special shows. But all in all, if you haven't played *cough*orseenaplaythroughof*cough* the game you wouldn't know exactly what is going on so I do have to kind of fault it there. Even the flashback sequences don't tell you much (at least show us a quick flashback of them escaping from Dusknoir the first time around). However it was a good episode and also hinted toward a bit of the sadness which the game has in store. Well onto the review:
Going To The Land Time Is Very Present:
* Intro correction: All Pokemon communicate through talking HUMAN. Pokemon communicated before through talking, but it was Pokemon talk (a.k.a. saying syllables of their species name).
* Hey, you're not the normal narrator. Also, how come Dialga is one of the main characters but Palkia isn't? I know Palkia is in the game having a side storyline, but still...
* And what exactly are special about these "Mystery Dungeons" which have appeared due to the time aberrations?
* It looks like they are skipping some bit of the storyline since Grovyle doesn't join your party till the later part of the game.
* But before we do catch up with Piplup, Chimchar, and Grovyle, let's go through some quick shenanigans with the guild members who give a quick "this is where they are up to".
* Don't worry Piplup and Chimchar, being the final storyline boss Dialga shouldn't be that difficult, and you'll have awesome battle music playing while the battle goes on.
* Lapras, it's kind of hard to miss the only part of the sea which has a white, circle mist which is sparkling.
* Don't worry Piplup and Chimchar, the "Sea of time" is just your general teleporting portal, should only take a few seconds unless something... oh you're there already.
* That was a short flashback, and not a very plot filling one being they only new scenes showed Piplup and Chimchar attacking a Glalie and Onix (though I guess the intro was meant to bring you up to date).
Dark Pulse From The Past:
* Oh come on, Unown isn't that hard of a language to read, considering it's just the alphabet with the question and exclamation mark.
* Um, by now you all should know Dusknoir is a villain, there was kind of a big chunk of the story in which he takes all three of you into the future and tries to execute all of you.
* Short cut to the whole guild being frozen in time trusting Pokepals to save the world, and now back to Piplup, Chimchar, and Grovyle pwning the Sableye... and geez Dusknoir is slow.
* Dusknoir, you would be right that no one would be able to get up to Temporal Tower if you were to leave with the Relic Fragment... too bad you're floating slower than 1 mile per hour and stopped to re-tell yourself of the plan.
* LOL, Dusknoir actually congradulated them for defeating all of the Sableye, but now he tries to absorb them into his stomach... oh wait he's just doing a Shadow Ball.
* Hah, chew on that! However Dusknoir, in true defeated villain fashion, reveals the startling information which personally effects the player: changing time would make all the Pokemon in and from the future vanish (meaning Piplup, Grovyle, and Dusknoir).
* Piplup and Grovyle, I know you were in the middle of a "we have to sacrifice ourselves in order to save the future" speech, but how did you not notice Dusknoir float up to the top of the temple considering he was originally RIGHT NEXT TO YOU!
* Ouch, Grovyle took that Dark Pulse head on! However I guess Grovyle decided that as long as Dusknoir was here he'll keep trying to attack them so he's taking him back to the future in true hero fashion, even giving out a line of Shakespeare before going.
A Hero's Fate:
* Yay Piplup, that was the point Grovyle was making when saying Chimchar can't know about the future Pokemon vanishing. Though Chimchar, even though you don't know that, you at least must know that unless another portal of time appears you won't be seeing Grovyle again.
* Indeed the ending of the game was sad and I'll admit made me a bit teary eyed (but then again I'm a wimp like that when it comes to sad endings, I recently teared up after the 1st final boss of 358/2 Days), but luckily everything ends happily, even more so in Explorers of Sky.
* Hold it, the design on the Rainbow Stoneship should also be flashing through the colors of the rainbow! Oh well, at least they still have the rainbow under it to maintain the "rainbow" part of its name.
* Pfft, though I know what Primal Dialga looks like, it would have still been nice to actually see it and not a silhouette of it with its red parts glowing. However that ends this special with Piplup and Chimchar heading up to battle Primal Dialga on the Rainbow Stoneship.

I don't play the games, so just by watching the specials I had no way of knowing that. |
Exactly, how are you suppose to even know that Dusknoir played a big role in the games if you didn't play the games before. Now they somewhat explained why you are working with Grovyle who was wanted as a theif in the last special, but they didn't even bother trying to explain Dusknoir's early appearance in the games as well as the importent plot point of him taking you, your partner, and Grovyle to the future to execute you.
I think it would have been better if they instead did one of the Special Episodes (probably "In the Future of Darkness" which is the special episode about what happened to Grovyle and Dusknoir upon travelling back to the future) considering this was meant to advertise "Explorers of Sky".
I thought it was good overall. I would like to see a series based off one of these games, but it doesn't look like they are planning on it.
I believe David Brimmer voices Dusknoir: he was also Crasher Wake.
