The anime is canon, but at most it's just a long, bigger budget filler episode.

As for Paul's Pokemon, I'm sure he has plenty we've never seen before. Remember Paul has travelled through Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn too, I'm pretty sure he has many powerful Pokemon we haven't yet seen.

You'd think Paul would use the same team or one of his more powerful ones for a league match. Guess he thought Ash didnt have a chance cxonsidering he owned him in the last match.

Is it Reggies Drap or is it his own? If it was Reggie's, it explains why it was able to KO Ash's pokemon. But beisdes from Drapion power, Electravire, all his other team was "new".

If it was Reggie's we would have know by now and obviously Paul isn't the type of trainer to take in another trainer's pokemon. And it doesn't matter if it isn't Reggie's, Paul has powerful pokemon regardless. And only three of his pokemon are new. We've seen Ninjask briefly before and we've seen Aggron as Lairon.

Just saw the preview; this match is going to be epic. Pikachu is also confirmed to be in the match, which is no surprise; that leaves two other Pokemon for Ash to use. I'm glad that Torkoal, and especially Sceptile, will be returning, as it's about time that they appear. I find it interesting that Gible will be in the match; maybe it will evolve? Since Ash will be losing, he would certainly go out with a bang if it did evolve, and maybe even took Darkrai down with it. Note that Darkrai is kept in a regular Pokeball.

I'm aware of that, I just thought it funny since Darkrai is the legendary of highest status so far caught by a trainer.

Shadows of Almia Darkrai is in a Pokeball when you transfer it over, and I have this hunch about it. I'm thinking it may not even be a real Darkrai. I'm thinking Zoroark using Illusion.

Oh, you mean the trainer's Heatran we saw briefly at the start of the Sinnoh League? Yeah, I forgot about it, but in any case, Darkrai is still the first legendary of the highest status caught by a trainer whose Pokeball we've seen (even though the Heatran is probably in a regular Pokeball too). Thus, I thought it funny when I saw it.

You forgot Heracross....and its been confirmed for weeks now. I'm hoping for Glalie as the sixth pokemon.

I didn't forget Heracross, I just didn't feel the need to mention him again because he's been confirmed to go up against Takuto for weeks now. I hope Glalie makes an appearance against Darkrai too. If it does, that just leaves one more Pokemon for Ash to use (and I'm hoping for Bulbasaur, Charizard, Squirtle, or Totodile).

Well you said Ash still had two open spots, one of which was Heracross. Pikachu, Heracross, Sceptile, Gible, Torkoal. That's five.

Ah, my bad, I must have miscounted. Anyway, I looked through the episode pictures, and it all looked epic; I can't wait to see Ash and Paul's battle dubbed. That parting moment between Ash and Paul makes me think that the latter will be returning, most likely in Isshu.

I honestly think that was a mistake, because technically Heatran and Darkrai are on the same level of Legendary status. Surely if someone is wiping through the Sinnoh League with a Legendary the other trainer with a Legendary should be doing the same (unless their first battle was against each other, though I think we would have heard about two Legendaries going at it if that was what happened.

No, I think when drawing background Pokemon someone didn't do their research or forgot Heatran was a Legendary and accidentally put it in. I'm betting when that episode is dubbed they would be replacing the Heatran with something like a Metagross.

Can't wait to see it, the Electivire vs. Infernape battle looks INTENSE!

Though exactly how did Paul react to the loss? Has he done a Heel Face Turn or does he at least see Ash as an equal?

Dude, Heel Face turn happened when he lost to the pyramid guy, he's accepted Ash as a rival during the tournament already, his reaction was pretty much "Heh, well i lost this time. Good battle" @BAC: uh... To Be Continued is there in every single episode...
