Okay, so let me get this straight: Paul releases Chimchar after it loses a battle and then Ash captures it? And Ash might also trade his Aipom for Dawn's Buizel?

I like the fact the writers are giving us new suprises in each episode. Everything we think WONT happen is happening. It's a nice twist to the boring routine for the last few seasons

I guess Paul released Chimchar in today's episode, and it will join Ash next week.

According to Bulbapedia Ash sees Paul release Chimchar and after seeing it getting upset he goes over to it, tells it that they will travel and become stronger together, and Chimchar will accept Ash's offer and become his Pokemon. Bulbapedia is generally right and rarely makes mistakes.

Sorry for posting again, but it seems like the episode images (and most likely synopsis) is up on Serebii. I won't give away much, so if you don't want spoilers don't read below (What am I saying? This thread is a spoiler paradise...)

As it turns out, Paul abandons Chimchar at the very end of the episode, even after it and Turtwig defeated a Metagross (Chimchartook care of Metagross)and Zangoose (Turtwig took care of Zangoose)(In this episode, Zangoose plays an importent role, but you'll need to look that up for yourself )! Paul then releases Chimchar and leaves, and Chimchar is about to head into the forest before being stopped by Ash. It looks like Ash makes the offer for it to go along with him and the episode end before Chimchar could decide (I'm guessing in the begining of the next episode it'll show Chimchar accepting Ash's offer).

If they did win, why release it? Chimchar has so many powerful attacks and yet he releases it?

No he doesn't. Even though they won the battle, Chimchar did poorly in training. Paul had Chimchar battle Ursaring, Torterra, Elekid, and Murkrow.

Well I wouldn't expect Chimchar to do well against 4 fully trained Pokemon. Also, though it did poorly in training, it was able to fight off a group of Zangoose with a fiery fire attack which Paul did see, which is why I'm guessing he kept it unti lthe end of the match. But I guess after seeing it needed help from Ash's Turtwig to defeat the Metagross and Zangoose he decide it wasn't worth it.

As for attacks, Chimchar in that episode was able to release some powerful fiery attacks on the group of Zangoose and Metagorss.

They might trade because Ashs Aipom loves pokemon contests and Dawns Buizel likes battles

From the pictures it looked like Chimchar helped Turtwig as much as Turtwig helped Cimchar
